Chelsea have been denied a penalty by the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) at the start of the second half following a challenge from Joe Worrall on Cole Palmer. The former Nottingham Forest centre-back made a strong tackle on Palmer to recover the situation.

The Blues appealed for a penalty, which VAR checked but dismissed. It appears to have been judged that Worrall played the ball before making contact with Palmer.

Liam Rosenior's side dominated the first half but were unable to double their advantage after Joao Pedro's fourth‑minute opener. Palmer came close to adding one himself but couldn't apply the finishing touch, including a one vs one situation with Burnley shot-stopper Martin Dubravka.

The hosts thought they had been awarded a penalty before VAR's intervention saw it overturned. The Premier League Match Centre account on X (formerly Twitter) is yet to provide a formal explanation.

With 18 minutes from time, Chelsea were reduced down to 10 men with Wesley Fofana picking up his second yellow card for lunging into a challenge. The Frenchman was given his first caution in the first half.

Rosenior had already been handed a late blow with Estevao pulling out of the matchday squad after feeling his hamstring in Friday's training session.

Explaining Estevao's absence on Saturday, Rosenior said: "Unfortunately yesterday in the training session, he felt awareness in his hamstring.

"At the moment we are scanning it to make sure it's nothing too serious but he's unavailable for today's game and we will see from there."
