In just a few months, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has transformed from a promising young talent into a name that’s capturing the hearts of cricket fans everywhere. At only 14 years old, this young Indian batter has earned admiration not just from the crowd but also from some of the sport's most respected figures, with England’s Jos Buttler leading the charge in praise.
Buttler recently stated that Sooryavanshi “has to be” the best batsman he’s ever witnessed. Last year, while behind the stumps, Buttler watched in awe as Sooryavanshi unleashed a stunning century against the Gujarat Titans for the Rajasthan Royals in the IPL, an innings that turned the tide of the match despite the Titans posting a hefty total.
Since that moment, Sooryavanshi has only continued to shine. Toward the end of last year, while playing for Bihar against Arunachal Pradesh, he made history as the youngest player to score a List A hundred in men’s cricket, smashing an incredible 190 runs off just 84 balls. Earlier this month, on the grandest stage of junior cricket, he delivered yet another jaw-dropping performance, scoring 175 runs off 80 balls in the Under-19 World Cup final, effectively knocking England out of the competition.

Former England captains Michael Vaughan and Alastair Cook, along with spinner Phil Tufnell, have openly expressed their astonishment at his talent.
“I saw Jos Buttler say that he [Sooryavanshi] has got to be the greatest player he has even seen. He is just 14 and has got a List A hundred to his name. And he is the youngest cricketer ever to score a List A hundred," Vaughan said.
Cook went on to highlight the aspect of the youngster’s batting that impressed him the most.
“I didn’t see his T20 hundred but I saw his other hundred and I was thinking he was just going to back away and hack it. Very strong. He has got this unbelievable bat speed. I saw this English guy bowl to him back of a length on the fourth stump [referring to the under 19 World Cup match] and it was not a bad ball. He hit it just like that over point," Cook said.
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi: India’s Rising Cricket Star
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s journey so far proves that age is no obstacle when it comes to talent. From dazzling performances in the IPL to breaking records in domestic cricket and the Under-19 World Cup, he has consistently wowed both fans and experts. The accolades from top players like Jos Buttler, Michael Vaughan, and Alastair Cook underscore his remarkable potential.
If he keeps this momentum going, Sooryavanshi could very well emerge as one of India’s top batsmen in the years ahead. His achievements not only inspire young cricketers but also herald a bright future for Indian cricket.
