Mumbai Indians' Remarkable Winning Streak
In Jaipur, Rajasthan, on May 2, the Mumbai Indians celebrated their sixth straight win in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, overcoming a rocky start with four losses in their initial five matches. This achievement ties their record for the longest winning streak in IPL history, previously set in 2008 and 2017.
Their latest triumph came with a commanding 100-run victory over the Rajasthan Royals (RR) at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium, marking MI's third win by a margin of 100 runs or more in IPL history. Only the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) have achieved this feat more often, with four such victories.
This win also catapulted the Mumbai Indians to the top of the IPL points table for the first time since April 17, 2021. For the Rajasthan Royals, this defeat was their second-largest by runs, following a 112-run loss to RCB in 2023.
The Mumbai Indians' six consecutive wins set a new record for the franchise, matching their previous streaks from 2008 and 2017. In this match, RR was bowled out for just 117 runs while chasing a daunting target of 218, marking MI's first victory against RR in Jaipur since 2012 after four consecutive losses.
Key bowlers Trent Boult and Karn Sharma each took three wickets, showcasing an impressive performance. Additionally, MI's captain Rohit Sharma became the second player in T20 cricket history to surpass 6000 runs for a single franchise, achieving this milestone during the match against RR. With 6024 runs in 231 matches for MI, Rohit stands as the highest run-scorer for the franchise, trailing only Virat Kohli, who leads with 8871 runs for RCB.
