If the Thursday match between Rajasthan Royals and Mumbai Indians is anything to go by, Hardik Pandya's side is on the threshold of a serious title run. The Mumbai Indians maintained their sixth consecutive win this season as they destroyed the Rajasthan Royals by a huge margin of 100 runs on their home ground. MI has now toppled RCB to become the new No. 1 in the IPL 2025 table with 14 points after this dominating win.
With these six wins, MI are now back in the discussion along with the belief that they may do a repeat of their 2015 comeback story. That year, just like in this one, they had a slow start by winning one out of five matches and finding themselves languishing in the lower half. They have since gone on to beat DC, SRH, CSK, SRH again, LSG, and now RR.
Such kind of triumph has been accomplished by Mumbai for the third time in IPL—a first in 2008 and then again in 2017. It should be noted that the most inophorous record is held by KKR, which won 10 matches during the seasons of 2014-15. Given their present form, MI can challenge that record. As for the last match, MI had a one-sided narrative right from the first ball even after losing the toss.
With an injured Sandeep Sharma absent, the weakened RR bowling attack was hammered by openers Rickelton and Sharma. The ex-MI captain marked his third fifty in a row and reached a personal milestone in passing 6,000 runs for the franchise.

Firmly well launched, Hardik Pandya, and Suryakumar Yadav kept the momentum with blistering runs, pouring down 48 apiece off a mere 23 balls. MI ended massively at 217/2. But after a mindful start, RR's batting could not stand the pressure. Their gem of a young star, Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who made a hundred in the last match, was back for a duck this time, and nobody really went on from there.
After being reduced to 47/5 at one stage, Rajasthan were finally bowled out for a mere total of 117 runs. The MI bowling attack was relentless, with Jasprit Bumrah especially impressive with a miserly 2 for 15 in his four overs, while Karn Sharma's 3 for 23 was a great contribution as well. Unfortunately for RR, this defeat assures them of being eliminated from IPL 2025 playoff contention.
