Parts of the ICC Men’s Test Player Rankings have been altered as a result of Zimbabwe’s historic three-wicket victory against Bangladesh in the first Test at Sylhet. Pace wonder Blessing Muzarabani is at the forefront of the movement. His nine-wicket haul in the match pushed him into elite company among Test bowlers and earned him the Player of the Match title.

Muzarabani became only the second bowler from Zimbabwe to earn 700 points in Test cricket, a remarkable accomplishment that puts him firmly in the elite group, with a new career-best rating of 705 points. In the most recent ICC Test bowling rankings, his performance moved him up four spots to 15th position. The only player still at the top of the leaderboard is Jasprit Bumrah of India.

Left-arm spinner Wellington Masakadza’s historic comeback to the Test arena after more than two years added to Zimbabwe’s joy. Masakadza returned to the Test bowling rankings in equal 68th position after taking five wickets in the Sylhet Test.

The Sylhet Test, however, wasn’t a one-sided match; despite the defeat, Bangladesh saw a number of its players rise in the rankings. Mehidy Hasan Miraz, an experienced off-spinner, moved up four spots to 26th rank among Test bowlers after taking 10 wickets in both innings.

Bangladesh’s top-order players saw a week of consistent improvement in the batting area. On the Test batting rankings, Mominul Haque rose five positions to 48th thanks to his calm innings of 56 and 47, while Jaker Ali, an up-and-coming batsman, made a noteworthy ten-place leap to 50th after his half-century in the second innings. Najmul Hossain Shanto, the captain, also maintained his winning streak, rising four spots to 53rd after scoring 40 and 60.

Brian Bennett of Zimbabwe, who made his debut within the top 100 by finishing in 90th position, created an impression with two half-centuries in the Sylhet Test. He was one of Zimbabwe’s most notable players because of his temperament under duress and his capacity to play for extended periods of time against strong spin and speed.
