Delhi According to a recent survey, young people worldwide between the ages of 18 and 29 are having difficulties with their physical and mental health in addition to their level of happiness.

According to the Xinhua news agency, the survey revealed that young people are having difficulties with their financial stability, relationships, purpose in life, and self-perceptions.

The information, which was published in the journal Nature Mental Health, was gathered by Gallup mostly in 2023 and came from self-reported surveys of over 200,000 individuals in more than 20 nations.

The study was part of a series of publications based on the first wave of data from the Global Flourishing Study, which was conducted by Baylor University and Harvard academics.

According to the research, the individuals’ average levels of thriving up to the age of 50 were comparatively low.

Tyler J. VanderWeele, the study’s primary author, described the situation as “quite stark.” He said that the results highlight a crucial question: “Are we investing enough in the well-being of youth?”

Similar conditions were discovered in other nations, such as Australia, Brazil, and the United Kingdom. However, according to The New York Times, which cited the study, the gap between younger and older persons was greatest in the US.

“Young adulthood has historically been seen as a carefree time with plenty of opportunities and little responsibilities. However, statistics from the thriving research and other sources indicate that this idea is more dream than reality for a large number of individuals, according to The Times’ coverage on the study.

Laurie Santos, a Yale psychology professor and presenter of the “The Happiness Lab” podcast, was reported as stating, “Study after study shows that social connection is critical for happiness, and young people are spending less time with friends than they were a decade ago.”

“Plus, like folks of all ages, young people are facing a world with a whole host of global issues, from climate to the economy to political polarisation,” Santos said.
