viewers have been left "hardcore sobbing" over a new romantic slice-of-life TV drama which landed on the streamer in March. When Life Gives You Tangerines was released on March 7 and has managed to retain a 100% Rotten Tomatoes score ever since. Despite not being as heavily promoted as some of Netflix'sother shows, it has racked up 32.9 million views. Those who have seen it have take to social media to share the visceral effect it had on them.

Set on Jeju Island in , the series begins in 1951 and follows Oh Ae-sun, played by K-pop star IU, an impoverished young woman who dreams of becoming a poet. Actor, singer and musician Park Bo-gum portrays Yang Gwan-sik, the young man who cherishes and loves her, providing a common thread throughout the story which spans several decades. Instead of high drama the show focuses on the nuances of life which are recognisable to everyone, such as ambition, family and love, charting their evolution as time passes.

The stars spent a lot of time working together and developing their characters prior to filming, which allowed them to build a natural chemistry.

This hasn't gone unnoticed by critics who described their performances as understated rather than showy.

Respected review site RogerEbert.com said When Life Gives You Tangerines is "four seasons of love" and highlighted the fact that the relationships in it shift gradually in a patient and rewarding way.

Those who viewed all seemed to have the same reaction and took to X in their droves to admit it reduced them to tears.

"Just finished when life gives you tangerines and I can't stop crying. How am I supposed to move on?" one asked.

"Wow yall were NOT playing around saying when life gives you tangerines is sad. I put it on as something light to watch as I eat and now I'm crying into my food," a second added

A third chimed in: "Bruh why is When Life Gives You Tangerines so sad like wtf???? I'm crying so badly and I'm only at ep 4."

"Do NOT watch 'When Life Gives You Tangerines' if you don't want to be a sobbing mess 5 times per episode," a fourth penned.

Meanwhile a fifth admitted: "I just finished when life gives you tangerines, I've been hardcore sobbing for the last hour."
